The Yard Bug mower is a rear engine mower made by MTD. This cute little riding lawn mower is best known for its compact size and attractive design. The Yard Bug mower has a 9.5 HP Briggs & Stratton engine and a 3-in-1 27 inch cutting deck. It also has a convenient internal bagging system which is underneath the seat. With a foot-pedal, auto drive transmission with cruise control and an 18” turning radius, this lawn tractor is a very popular item. Unfortunately, according to an MTD sales representative, this item has been discontinued by the manufacturer for about 5 years. The only way to find the nifty Yard Bug mower is to do a regular search for yard bug lawn mower on craigslist or scout your local garage sales. But, before you embark on your yard bug mower treasure hunt, take a look below at what the general customer feedback was for this product and you may want to consider looking at some alternative rear engine mowers.

Yard Bug Mower Customer Reviews

Pros

After reviewing about 11 customer reviews for the Yard Bug mower, most customers liked its general appearance. The compact small size of this lawn tractor was described by one customer as “really cool.” Another positive customer feature was the motor. Apparently, the motor on the Yard Bug Mower is solid. Other pluses are the grass catcher inside, ease in getting around trees, turns really tight and the auto drive transmission. Also, compared to other rear engine mowers, the Yard Bug mower was very reasonably priced.

Cons

Some customer complaints about the Yard Bug mower were that there are too many parts to maintain, its slowness, and unreliable brakes. Customers also noted that the 3 belts needed to be replaced every year, which is not an easy task apparently even with the manual instructions. The grass catcher doesn’t hold very much grass, muffler and battery replacement issues, and high maintenance bills for repairs.
